Get ready, set, go! November 1st marks the annual ING New York City Marathon. The runners will hit the 13th mile through Greenpoint Brooklyn into Long Island City on Vernon Boulevard. Here is the route map. Put on your best sneakers and make your way to Long Island City (7 train to Vernon Bvd stop) to cheer on all of the runners (either fast or slow). They should be trickling into the neighborhood around 10am until 1pm.
Here are some places on the runners’ route in LIC & Greenpoint where you can fuel up when you watch:
L haus– (11-02 49TH Ave LIC) This new condominium in LIC is hosting a Rooftop Viewing Marathon Party. Even if you’ve never before set foot in a luxury condo (like me) – this is your one chance to watch the marathon from a birds eye view. 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Dorian Cafe– (1001 Vernon Blvd) They open early and supply cheap homestyle meals to gobble while you watch.
Bricktown Bagels– (51-06 Vernon Blvd) Although slightly off route- this place makes great bagels and coffee (try their new french toast flavor) to grab while on the go, so you can munch while cheering. They also have free wi-fi so you can get up-to-the-minute tweets on the marathon.
Communitea– (47-02 Vernon Blvd) This “Gossip Girl” cafe allows for prime viewing space. They have organic pastries, tasty panino sandwiches, tea and fantastic coffee.
Lomzynianka– Polish Cuisine (646 Manhattan Ave Greenpoint Brooklyn) Athough this place is right on the marathon path, it opens at noon so it’s best to go after you’ve watched some of the event. This magnificent little restaurant offers inexpensive Polish food in an atmosphere not unlike your Grandma’s house. Prices range from $1.75 for a hearty bowl of borscht to $7.50 for a sizable entree.
Going to watch the marathon? Got suggestions on where to eat? Send them in as well as your photos of the event and I’ll post them.Read Full Post | Make a Comment ( None so far )
