Happy New Year Queens! What better way to start off 2010 than to take a brisk walk around the neighborhood to see what is going on. Despite all of the businesses that have folded in the last year (R.I.P) we have some new arrivals…
D’Ricuras 42-13 Broadway is the latest addition to Astoria’s Colombian cuisine. Some items on their menu include arepas, tostones, pizza, Colombian burgers, perros (hotdogs) and tacos. By the looks of the newly constructed awning, Krave Bar & Grill at 45th St & Ditmars is set to open any day now. Word on the street says that it will be a low-key eatery aimed to satisfy your comfort food kravings.
For those of you in need of some post holiday bargains– Kristees and Site Design will be having sales through the weekend to clear out winter inventory and bring in the Valentines goodies, respectively. Bistro Les Minot is offering a $10 off coupon for those on their mailing list.. “applicable on our NEW A LA CARTE MENU starting Friday January 8, 20010… Braised Lamb Shank, roasted Mignon of Pork, Lobster Raviolis and seared Red Snapper are among the new comers. Hurry to reserve your table for this offer will expire on Friday February 12, 2010.”
Determined to work off those extra holiday pounds before Valentines Day? The Long Island City YMCA is waiving their sign-up fee of $100. For a limited time you can join for free with no contract when you present their coupon found in AMNY.
And last but not least, for all of those creative souls who are feeling less than enthusiastic this Winter- Michael’s Arts & Crafts store in Woodside has some inspiring tools for those DIY projects. For example, here is a photo of my pre-holiday card-making extravaganza. For about $15 I purchased some multi colored card-stock along with a package of envelopes that enabled me to construct a bunch of fancy homemade cards, conceived out of a love and held together with glue.

Como se dice “trash can” en espanol? El Basurero! This festive restaurant on 32-17 Steinway Street is no ordinary place to eat…or drink. The minute you walk in, you are transported to what would resemble theme-park attractions, Colombian style. Tacky? Perhaps. Fun? You bet! The food is good but the atmosphere is what really keeps patrons coming back. Serving tapas and traditional entrees and a full bar is there to help you wash everything down. Be sure to go on the weekend to be personally serenaded by a mariachi band in full costume.
