This weekend the “Jersey Shore” invades Astoria. Don’t miss the famous San Antonio Abate street fair, the Italian sausage festival and parade occur every year around this time on Ditmars Boulevard. Play some games, say some prayers, drink some beers and eat spicy Italian sausage. Festivities begin Thursday June 24 and continue through Sunday June 27 with the parade.

say your prayers

play some games

eat some sausage and peppers

Its a really fun street fair. It’s good for children. Good food and fun games.

gotta love people who move into Italian neighborhoods where these festivals have gone on for decades and want to complain about them.

I’ve just seen the San Antonio Abate in Italy… and it soooo beautiful. I can’t wait to go there for the next 3 1/2 years.

Wow thanks Jesse! I try my best to capture those fleeting though memorable moments…

the last photo is phenomenal.

Thanks for the information, Chris. I wasn’t aware of any church sponsoring, but it sure does seem to entail some sort of religious theme… It is true- the fair can be very noisy.

I live on Ditmars Blvd. and have a few insights I want to share. First, this street fair is NOT sponsored by a church or any charitable group. It is a fundraiser for a men’s club. The organizers certainly try to make people think that there’s a church involved, but there isn’t.

also — for those who live within earshot of the fair. By law, they are supposed to turn off the amplified music at 9:00 (this includes live music). If they don’t, please call 311 and file a noise complaint. This group has ignored the law for years.

Just wanted people to know about those two items.

Ha, I recognize those arses. Too funny.

You’re welcome Beth. I too had a difficult time finding the information, so I asked my friend D who attends the festival every year. As stated “it’s the best culture Ditmars Boulevard has to offer”.

Thanks for covering this. I couldn’t find info on it anywhere else.

Always up for a sausage fest. Pun intended.
