Note by Note– The Making of Steinway L1037 is a documentary that captures the life of a Steinway piano from its humble beginnings in the factory, to its ostentatious display in the Manhattan showroom. On a desolate street in Astoria sits a typical looking factory  where men and women clothed in rugged jeans and t-shirts go every day to take part in the making of a Steinway. The craft requires such meticulous hands and eyes that each unique piece takes several months to construct. This beautiful film takes us on the year long  journey, documenting every step of the way, from conception to completion. I had the chance to witness this process first-hand on a recent tour of the factory (see photos below) The amount of craftmanship and dedication that goes into the art is astonishing. Each delicate maneuver of the instrument is just as refined as the notes that come out of it.
