Grind Cafe Sunnyside

Unfortunately Grind (39-24 Queens Blvd) is one coffee house that does not live up to its name. With an appellation like that one would conjure up images of freshly brewed individual cups of java with a rich hearty taste. Instead it was like drinking a cup of day-old Sanka. Hot food tastes more like tv dinners and the smoothies were nothing more than crushed ice and fruit flavored syrup thrown in a glass. The coffee falls short of taste just as the decor falls short of ambience. The atmosphere is an amalgam of bohemian chic café and tacky chain-restaurant. The walls are painted an industrial red and plastered with corporate logos for chai tea on one side, on the other there were nicely displayed photos. Grind does have internet access, but at a high price. $1 will get you 10 minutes, $8 will get you an hour. The pastries are good and it there is bottled beer and wine. If you’re staying in the area for the evening, Grind features live music on the weekends. After that, unluckily, this café doesn’t have a lot to offer.
