NY Housing Works Thrift Shop- Long Island City

Posted on January 24, 2008. Filed under: Off the beaten path |

Every second Saturday of every month the New York Housing Works Thrift Shop opens the doors to the general public. From 10am to 5pm you can peruse the warehouse for loads of old goodies. This is the one saturday you get first pick from the many donations made to the organization. Compared to most thrift shops in New York where everything is picked and prodded through, these items are fresh off the donation truck. For $20 you can fill an entire paper bag. Public transportation is limited, so if you have access to a car it’s better to drive. Some great finds made by Jenn and Josh of astoria (www.shortshrifted.com) are: Givenchy wool scarf, Abercrombie & Fitch sweater, circa 1915 bowler hat, and of course a little black dress.
