El Rey Taco Truck Astoria Queens

Posted on January 16, 2008. Filed under: Mexican/South American, Off the beaten path |

There are coffee trucks, bagel carts, and street meat galore in Astoria, but the Taco Truck is one of a kind, in Astoria that is.  Usually it’s parked on 30th Avenue around 33rd street, although it’s hit or miss when trying to keep up with this little silver automobile that contains what loyal patrons would call the most valuble tamales in queens.  No matter if it’s 3am or 6pm, there is always a line of hungry locals trying to get their hands on these succulent traditional Mexican dishes. Served hot off a paper plate or stuffed in a paper bag to take home, it’s well worth the walk for these cheap eats. And if you aren’t up for a stroll to the truck, you can sit down in the actual restaurant that owns the truck, El Rey on Astoria Blvd. near 27th street…(more accurate directions to come) For more places like this- check out Roosevelt Ave Between 95th and 80th Streets- practically every block contains its own street side taqueria.

Thanks for the input. I haven’t been there in a while- he must’ve stopped making them.

El Rey del Taco makes great food, but he doesn’t serve tamales
