Jackson Diner

Posted on January 16, 2008. Filed under: Cheap Dining, Indian, Jackson Heights |

Jackson Diner might be the furthest thing from an actual New York diner. Located in Jackson Heights, this area is known to locals as Little India and rightfully so. Although it is primarily a melting pot of cultures and ethnicities, the Little India section is located between 37th Avenue and Broadway primarily on 73rd and 74th Streets. Jackson Diner serves authentic Indian cuisine in the heart of this area. But it doesn’t matter where you live, the trip is well worth it. A full course meal that includes nan, masala dosa- a crepe filled with potatoes, nuts and peas, chicken tandoori, mango chutney ot achar sauce and lastly, kheer, a creamy rice pudding with raisins and nuts will probably cost you about $25. This is dirt cheap, considering you can get a full meal for about $10, but it’s nice to throw in an appetizer and dessert for the full Indian cultural experience. There is a lot to be desired in the way of decor, but the food is so tasty that you barely notice the sparce walls and 1970s brady bunch highschool cafeteria set-up.
