Marathon Run and Brasil Coffee House in Long Island City
Vernon blvd in LIC was a great place to watch the marathon. It is the heart of LIC and the 14 mile mark- so you can really see some of the best runners at the peak of the race and you don’t have to wake up too early. I was wondering if you could just jump into the race if you wanted to run at the very last minute. Apparently you can- as my friend Ashlinn informed me she jumped into the race for 11 miles. Whoa!
It was a bright sunny day to watch the runners, but the holiday weekend took its toll. I thought the athletes were tired, but I really needed some coffee. My counter part and I hit Brasil Coffee House right on the corner of Vernon (4819 Vernon Blvd, Long Island City (718) 729-5969).
Despite the not-so-cheap prices, we were pleasantly surprised with the selection and atmosphere. The brews were rich in taste and the ambiance was relaxing and rustic, with hardwood floors unique hanging lamps and paintings of the Brazilian country-side. A great place to spend a lazy sunday. There are fresh baked pastries and breads for your consumption. Conveniently located by the subway stop- perfect for before or after work coffee stop.
